Reactivity is a huge impediment to wholeheartedness. As I sit writing this, I can hear endless car horns that persist in their entitlement (Four of the five living US presidents are in town, creating quite the traffic jam!), without the slightest consideration for why traffic isn’t moving. What would happen in each of those drivers, if they stopped long enough to drop the stories associated with why they need to be in such a hurry and actually considered both: taking a deep breath and allowing themselves to just be present with the need to exert some patience and the possibility that the situation blocking their path might deserve some compassion? Sometimes the road ahead is blocked . . . for good reasons, bad ones, or just because we’re all inhabiting a crowded space. The why doesn’t ultimately matter.
