During the past week, my son has been in bed sick and my dog has been recovering from a leg injury. This has meant that I’ve had no time alone in my home and the most personally intimate part of my day – a 4-mile walk in the park first thing in the morning – has been on hold. The experience has incited an inner restlessness and chafing that has been uncomfortable. In these moments, I recognize just how much I require and thrive in the healthy habits that help me maintain the sacred center – that inner experience of groundedness, strength, and peace.
While I’ve been substituting more yoga for the walking and certainly do get things done – including meditation – while my son naps, these are not adequate enough to meet my particular needs; I struggle without communing in nature regularly and I need solitude to recharge my energy.
